THE FIRST FIVE SATURDAYS OF THE MONTH
PRAYER FOR THE SOULS IN PURGATORY
We believe in one God, the Father,
the Almighty, maker of
heaven and
earth of all that is
seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord,
Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten
of the Father, God from
God, Light
from Light, true God
from true God,
begotten, not made, one
in Being
with the Father.
Through him all things
were made. For us men
and our
salvation he came down
from heaven:
by the power of the
Holy Spirit he was
born of the Virgin
Mary, and became
man. For our sake he
was crucified
under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered, died,
and was buried. On the
third day he
rose again in
fulfillment of the
Scriptures; he ascended
into heaven
and is seated at the
right hand of the
Father. He will come
again to judge
the living and the
dead, and his
kingdom will have no
end. We
believe in the Holy
Spirit, the Lord,
the giver of life, who
proceeds from
the Father and the Son.
With the
Father and the Son he
is worshipped
and glorified. He has
spoken through
the Prophets. We
believe in one holy
catholic and apostolic
Church. We
acknowledge one baptism
for the
forgiveness of sins. We
look for the
resurrection of the
dead, and the life
of the world to come.
Amen.
Our Father
Our Father, who art in
heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in
heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our
trespasses
as we forgive those
who trespass against
us,
and lead us not into
temptation,
but deliver us from
evil
Amen
The Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou among
women,
and blessed is the
fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now
and at the hour of our
death.
Amen
Hail,
holy Queen, Mother of Mercy!
Our life, our
sweetness, and our hope!
To thee do we cry, poor
banished
children of Eve, to
thee do we send
up our sighs, mourning
and weeping
in this valley, of
tears.
Turn, then, most
gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy
toward us; and
after this our exile
show unto us the
blessed fruit of thy
womb Jesus;
O clement, O loving, O
sweet virgin Mary.
Amen
O my God,
I am heartily sorry for
having offended you,
and I detest
all my sins, because of
Your just
punishments, but most
of all because
they offend You, my
God, who are
all-good and deserving
of all my love.
I firmly resolve, with
the help of
Your grace, to sin no
more and to
avoid the near occasion
of sin.
Amen
Glory be to the Father and to
the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now
and ever shall be, world without
end.
Amen.
Prayer To Your Guardian Angel
Angel of God, my Guardian dear,
To whom God's love commits me here,
Ever this day be at my side
To light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.
Eternal rest
grant unto them, O Lord;
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May
they rest in peace.
Amen.

The First Five Saturdays of the Month
The great promise of Our Lady of Fatima
The Blessed Virgin appeared to Lucy on 13 June 1917, at Fatima, giving her the great mission of propagating the devotion of the first five Saturdays of the month, making known her "Great Promise.'' Our Lady showed her heart, saying:
"...Behold my heart in the midst of thorns that ungrateful persons, at every instant, press on it with their blasphemy and ingratitude. At least you console me, and tell all men that I promise to help, in the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation, whoever the first Saturday of each month for five consecutive months will go to confession, receive Holy Communion, say five decades of the rosary and keep me company for fifteen minutes, meditating the mysteries of the rosary, with the intention of making reparation to me."
Conditions required:

Confession (within eight days). |

Holy Communion. |

Recitation of a third part of the rosary (five decades). |

Five consecutive months without interruption. |

These five first Saturdays must be made with the intention of making reparation to console the Immaculate Heart of Mary, saddened by the indifference and ingratitude of so many, in a spirit of humility and sorrow for sins. |
To thee, O Blessed Joseph, we have recourse in our tribulations, and while imploring the aid of thy most holy Spouse, we confidently invoke thy patronage also. By that love which united thee to the Immaculate Virgin, Mother of God, and by the fatherly affection with which thou didst embrace the Infant Jesus, we humbly beseech thee graciously to regard the inheritance which Jesus Christ purchased with His Blood and to help us in our necessities, by thy powerful intercession.
Protect, I most provident Guardian of the Holy Family, the chosen children of Jesus Christ; ward off from us, O most loving Father, all taint of error and corruption; graciously assist us from Heaven, O most power protector, in our struggle with the powers of darkness; and as thou didst once rescue the Child Jesus from imminent peril to His life, so now defend the Holy Church of God from the snares of her enemies and from all adversity.
Shield each one of us with thy unceasing patronage that, imitating thy example and supported by thy aid, we may be enabled to live a good life, die a holy death, and secure everlasting happiness in Heaven.
Amen.
Prayer for the Souls in
Purgatory
Memorare Prayer to Our Lady - Indulgences Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that any one
who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left
unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother!
To thee I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
- Refugium peccatorum, Ora pro nobis - Say
the Hail Mary If this
prayer is said once, it gives an indulgence of three years to a soul in Purgatory. Plenary indulgence for the Souls in Purgatory
- Consolatrix afflictorum, Ora pro nobis - Say the Hail Mary
- Auxilium Christianorum, Ora pro nobis - Say the Hail Mary
If this prayer is told once a day, for one month, it gives the plenary indulgence for a
soul in Purgatory.
For ages, millions of pilgrims have been able to obtain remission of punishment due to sins, thanks to St. Francis (usual conditions apply: visit a church so designated with Portiuncula Indulgence on August 2, go to confession, receive Holy Communion and pray for the intentions of the Holy Father.
A plenary indulgence, applicable only to the Souls in Purgatory, is granted to the faithful, who on November 2, the day dedicated to the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed, piously visit a church. In visiting the church it is required that one Our Father and the Creed be recited. As usual, to acquire a plenary indulgence it is necessary also to fulfill the following three conditions: sacramental Confession, Eucharistic communion, and prayer for the intention of the Holy Father. The three conditions may be fulfilled several days before or after the performance of the visit; it is, however, fitting that communion be received and the prayer for the intention of the Holy Father be said on the same day as the visit.
